You Are Not Alone

The mornings from last week were lit up with an orange glow. It was as if someone decided to turn off the sunlight and instead replaced it with a light bulb. It felt artificial.

Also, the whole street and cars were covered in white specks. It must have snowed ash while we were all asleep. They probably fell gently and lightly. But instead of them being cool and evaporating into the air, they’re warm and dusty.

Now, this whole week we wake up and step out of our home to the slight smell of burn, and the air a smoky haze.

Summer here in California is fire season, which means heat upon heat for many. Some of us get the ashes and the glow, others gets the smoke, while others get the fire. I think we all have so much respect for the firefighters. They risk their lives to save homes, people, and all animals.

It's been feeling pretty grim lately, but even so I feel a wave of gratefulness.

I am grateful for life, even with all its fury and despair. I guess if you really think about it: How else would we know peace and hope without experiencing the other? Sometimes it's difficult to accept this especially when we are dealing with awful events, or are going through a nasty situation. But, we are never alone. It seems that this is the year's phrase: We are all in this together.

There are people who are going through similar situations, or are having the same feelings and emotions as you are.

You might feel hopeless, and you are not alone.
You might feel helpless, and again. You are not alone.
You might feel alone, and you really have to think about this.
Believe it: You are NOT alone.

We have to look for those that love us, those that no matter what we do they will love us unconditionally. They will certainly show compassion towards us. Perhaps its a parent, perhaps it's a grandparent, or your partner, or even your child. Children always love their parents, even with all our flaws. It is true. A child's love is so pure and true. They love you unconditionally. You are not alone.

Don't forget to also show compassion to your fellow human beings. You never know who out there might need it.

No matter if someone seems to have it all together, remember how good you are at hiding your own feelings and emotions. They are just as good. We need to break down that wall by opening up and communicating our feelings. I know sometimes it's easier said than done. I have a difficult time breaking down that wall myself. Breaking down that wall and opening up is in itself a process. But once we start the process, it gets a little bit easier.
